Materials
Materials are often the starting point for me.
When I have an idea, I’ll often reach for a piece of brass, timber or glass and begin bringing things together. Working directly with the material helps the idea develop — its weight, surface, colour and the way it responds to other materials can begin to suggest what the object might become.
This early stage is an important part of my process. Rather than simply choosing a material for a predetermined object, the material itself will often influence the direction of the design.

Raw
Glass, metal, timber, stone and composites — each with their own character and possibilities.
I collect, source and test. I look for the qualities that might respond to light, hand and purpose.

Surface
Texture, patina and finish aren’t just about how something looks.
They speak of material, tool, process and time.

Experiment
Putting materials together reveals something new.
Contrasts inform each other. Tensions create direction.
